Matt Schaub Predictions for 2013-2014

Matt Schaub Predictions for 2013-2014

After leading the Houston Texans to two straight playoff berths, a first in franchise history, Matt Schaub’s play has taken a sharp turn downward this year.

Despite winning their first two games in last-second fashion, the Texans have now lost three straight games, due mostly to Schaub’s ineffectiveness. The Houston quarterback has already set a dubious interceptions record (more on that later), and was benched for the first time in his career against the 49ers.

2013-2014 Predictions for Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub

Will Matt Schaub Be Traded?

The natives are restless in Texas. Their team, especially their quarterback, is performing poorly and the fans want to convey their displeasure by any means possible. Apparently, smoke signal is a preferred medium of communication.

The Internet is the medium of choice, and a fan has already tapped (read: hacked) Twitter to deliver his two cents on what to do with the quarterback: TRADE HIM.

Who Will Replace Matt Schaub?

If a trade is unlikely, what other options does Houston have other than replacing Schaub?

Josh Freeman was one of the best quarterbacks on the market, but he was quickly snapped up by the similarly quarterback-challenged Vikings. Backup TJ Yates has filled in for Schaub, to unexceptional results. Some are clamoring for Case Keenum, former Houston Cougar, third string quarterback with zero pro snaps.

Texas Longhorns legend Vince Young is still available and performed well in preseason with the Packers. Young has long voiced his desire to play for the Texans.

Will Matt Schaub Have More Pick Six’s than Regular INTs?

Amid a disappointing start to the year, Matt Schaub still managed to do something no one else has: throw a pick-six (an interception returned for a touchdown) in four consecutive games. He now has 9 interceptions on the season, 4 of which were taken to the house.

Unfortunately, there are no definitive total season pick-six stats which Schaub can break, but he can do the next best thing: If Schaub can keep this tremendous streak going, he can possibly finish with more pick-six’s than regular interceptions, which we assume has also never been done. Can he do it?
