Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (+4)
Regular Season Record: 48-24
The Grizzlies send the San Antonio Spurs packing for a vacation after scoring a 100-96 home win on Wednesday against Gregg Popovich’s squad in a play-in tournament matchup. Dillon Brooks, Jonas Valanciunas, and Ja Morant teamed up to carry the Grizzlies to win, as they each scored at least 20 points. Valanciunas had an especially fantastic night, scoring 23 points with 23 rebounds and three blocks. When Memphis beat Golden State at home, 111-103, back in March, Valanciunas ruled in the middle, as he scored 19 points to go along with 15 rebounds and two blocks. Defensively, the Grizzlies will keep Stephen Curry and the Warriors in check. That’s not an easy task, but Memphis finished the regular season 10th in the league with an opponents’ effective field goal percentage of 53.3.
The Grizzlies will roll to San Francisco this Friday with a 9-2 record against the spread in their last 11 games as the underdog.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (-4)
Regular Season Record: 36-36
The Warriors started strong but fizzled in the second half against the Los Angeles Lakers in Wednesday’s 103-100 road loss to LeBron James and the #LakeShow. Curry led the Warriors with 37 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the field with six 3-pointers, and you can expect that he can do it again this Friday against Memphis. After all, he burned the Grizzlies with a 46-point performance in the Warriors’ regular-season finale 113-101 home win last Sunday. Andrew Wiggins also played well there, scoring 21 points, the same output he put up in the loss to the Lakers. Wiggins has really turned it on of late, as he’s averaged 22.8 points on 55.6 percent shooting over the last five games. That’s not to mention the fact that he averaged 27.0 points on a 50.0 field goal percentage in three meetings with the Grizzlies back in the regular season.
The Warriors are 6-0 against the spread in their last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Grizzlies win, 117-115.
