Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (-2)
Regular Season Record: 56-26
The Grizzlies said no-no to Minnesota’s dreams of a 2-0 lead in the series, with Ja Morant going full MVP mode with an almost triple-double stat line in Game 2. Morant scored 23 points to go with 10 assists and 9 rebounds in 30 minutes of action in that contest, while Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane each had 16 points. By forcing turnovers and dominating the glass, the Grizzlies were able to get 16 more shots from the field than Minneasota, while alamo making 14 more buckets. The Grizzlies’ ability to waltz into the paint and get higher percentage shots is killing Minnesota, which has yet to put up an answer defensively to Memphis’ inside scoring. With a win finally in the playoffs, the Grizzlies can be expected to continue rolling in Game 3.
The Grizzlies are 20-6 against the spread in their last 26 games after a day of rest.
Betting on the Minnesota Timberwolves (+2)
Regular Season Record: 46-36
The Timberwolves lost all the momentum they built off their Game 1 win, but with the series shifting to Minnesota, Anthony Edwards and company will finally get the chance to play this postseason in front of a supportive crowd. They are going to need all the support they can to squash the confidence of Memphis. Edwards scored 20 points in Game 2, but was a salty 7/16 from the field, while Karl-Anthony Towns took just seven shots and finished with 15 points. An increased role offensively is likely going to be some of the adjustments the Timberwolves will be making in Game 3. Despite the presence of Grizzlies defensive menace Jackson, Towns can dominate with Steven Adams as his primary defender. Towns is shooting 75 percent in the playoffs when Adams is his closest defender.
The Timberwolves are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games versus a team with a winning record on the road.
Writer’s Prediction
The Grizzlies win, 122-115.
