Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (40-31)
The Memphis Grizzlies had their four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday with a gut-wrenching 95-82 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Grizzlies simply had no answer for DeMarcus Cousins who recorded 41 points and 17 rebounds. The Grizzlies will look to get their season back on track when they square off with the San Antonio Spurs later tonight.
Momentum is with Memphis when it comes to this particular matchup as the Grizzlies are 2-0 against the Spurs this season. The Grizzlies followed up their 89-74 mastery of the Spurs on February 6 with a dominant 104-96 victory against San Antonio last Saturday. Mike Conley, Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph combined for 53 points for Memphis, which shot 42 percent from the field in that contest. The Grizzlies were deadly in their execution on the offensive end as they hit 13 3-pointers and 27 free throws in that ballgame.
What proved to be the difference in that game was Memphis’ rock-solid defense. They limited MVP candidate Kawhi Leonard to 40 percent shooting from the field on Saturday. Tony Parker struggled mightily as well, finishing with just six points and two assists. LaMarcus Aldridge also had trouble with Memphis’ towering frontline as he laid a fat goose egg in the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies are third in the NBA in scoring defense, allowing just 100.3 points per game this season.
The Grizzlies are 3-1 ATS in their last four meetings with the Spurs.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (54-16)
There’s just no stopping San Antonio right now. The Spurs extended their winning streak to two games with a thrilling 100-93 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday. Five players scored in double-figures for the Spurs who moved to within 2.5 games of the league-leading Golden State Warriors. Leading the way for the Spurs in this game was LaMarcus Aldridge. He scored a game-high 26 points on 12-of-24 shooting from the field. Aldridge has been superb for the five-time NBA champions since returning from a heart scare, averaging 21 points on 48.1 percent shooting (38-of-79) from the floor.
The Spurs will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the Memphis Grizzlies later tonight. They will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have fared extremely well at home of late. The Spurs have won 10 of their last 11 games at AT&T Center. There’s also great news on the injury front for head coach as Gregg Popovich as David Lee is slated to return for Thursday’s ballgame. Lee has been a vital cog in San Antonio’s success this season, averaging 7.6 points and 5.6 boards per game.
The Spurs are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games.
