Betting on the Mercer Bears (odds)

Record: 0-1 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Mercer showed no mercy in its first win of the season. The Bears pulled off a very nice 69-0 win over Point University last week. The Bears rode their ground attack from start to finish against Pont University. Mercer rushed 59 times for 539 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. That’s an insane 9.1 yards per carry. It would be ridiculous to expect Mercer from having anything close to that kind of success on the ground against Alabama, so expect the Bears to diversify their point of attack more on Saturday. Quarterback Carter Peevy has to be more active from the pocket. He went 9 of 12 for 139 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception against Point University. However, it might also be better for Mercer to just keep rushing the ball than risk losing possessions to Alabama’s secondary.

Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (odds)

Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Alabama did not waste showing the entire nation why it is still the team to beat. The Crimson Tide opened up their campaign by crushing the Miami Hurricanes last week to the tune of a 44-13 loss. The offense looked mighty fine for Alabama despite the likes of Mac Jones, Najee Harris, and DeVonta Smith no longer around. But that’s just Alabama for you. Bryce Young was in command of the offense in the Miami game, passing for 344 yards and four touchdowns without an interception on 27-of-38 completions. Jameson Williams went off downfield with 126 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions. Mercer just doesn’t stand a chance against Alabama, talent for talent, on either side of the field. Alabama’s defense should be too much for the Bears just like it did in the two teams’ last meeting in 2017 with the former scoring a 56-0 win.

Writer’s Prediction

Alabama wins, 63-3.
