The Miami Dolphins (+5,000 to win the AFC) are eyeing to rebound from a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, as they prepare for Friday’s meeting with Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Will the Dolphins bounce back and even their preseason record? Or will the Panthers, who are priced +3,000 to win the NFC championship, double up on their success last week at the expense of the Buffalo Bills?

Betting on the Miami Dolphins
Miami may have lost to the Bucs in Week 1 of the preseason, 26-24, but Dolphins fans must feel happy to see quarterback Ryan Tannehill back on the field after missing all of last season due to a serious knee injury. Tannehill only threw for 32 yards on 4-of-6 completions but that his mere presence in the game was a big relief for Dolphins fans. It’s the backup quarterback battle between David Fales and Brock Osweiler that is providing the intensity in Miami, and will continue to be so in the coming weeks. Fales seemed to win round 1 by completing eight of 11 passes for 115 yards, while Osweiler only had 83 passing yards on 10-of-21 completions. Fales has the opportunity to widen the gap between him and Osweiler against the Panthers, whose defense was abused by Buffalo’s air attack that recorded 338 passing yards last week.
The over is 3-0 in Miami’s last three preseason games on the road.
Betting on the Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton looked sharp in his first game under new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who was brought aboard by Carolina to improve the efficiency of the dual-threat quarterback. Newton completed six of nine passes for 84 yards in a 28-23 win over the Buffalo Bills last week. Speaking of efficiency, versatile running Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey had 29 receiving yards on two catches, while adding 11 rushing yards on four carries. It’s going to be interesting how Turner will experiment and utilize the talented Stanford product for the rest of the preseason and in the upcoming regular season. Carolina’s defense may miss at least two bodies this Friday, with safety Damian Parms and cornerback LaDarius Gunter prematurely leaving the Buffalo game with shoulder and head issues, respectively.
Carolina is 2-1 SU and 2-1 ATS in its last three preseason home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Carolina wins, 21-17.
