Betting on the Miami Dolphins (+3.5)

Regular Season Record: 0-0

Unlike in previous seasons, there is significant optimism on the Dolphins heading into a new season. After all, they just went 10-6 in 2020, which was the first time Miami went above .500 since 2016. All eyes will be on Tua Tagovailoa, beginning in this preseason game, though there should be reservations about his availability. The Fins might not be too interested in playing him in this meeting with Chicago. Last year, Tagovaoiloa played 10 games and started in nine, and finished the season with 1,814 passing yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions. Also expect to see Jacoby Brissett taking snaps under center. Tagovailoa aside, the Dolphins’ biggest asset should still be their defense that allowed just 21.1 points per game in 2020.

The Dolphins are 4-1 straight-up and 5-0 against the spread in their last five preseason games.

Bet on the Miami Dolphins

Betting on the Chicago Bears (-3.5)

Regular Season Record: 0-0

The Bears have veteran Andy Dalton slated as their starter in the regular season, but the future of the team under center is Justin Fields. The rookie quarterback out of Ohio State should be able to see action this Saturday against Miami. The Dolphins’ defense will give him a nice test. The wide receiving corps of Chicago isn’t encouraging to look at, with Allen Robinson as the only legitimate threat. But these preseason games should be an opportunity for the likes of Justin Hardy, Rodney Adams, and Riley Ridley to move up in the depth chart. Chicago’s offensive line will also be a subject of focus here, especially with a rookie quarterback working in the pocket. Chicago was 14th last year in quarterback sack percentage on offense.

The over is 3-0 in the Bears’ last three preseason games.

Bet on the Chicago Bears

Writer’s Prediction

The Dolphins win, 21-16.
