Tua Tagovailoa is busy loading up on confidence ahead of the regular season. Last week, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star looked fantastic in slicing open the Atlanta Falcons’ defense in a 37-17 home win. He went 16 of 23 for 183 passing yards and a touchdown without a turnover. Even Jacoby Brissett was immaculate, as he was 8 of 8 for 99 passing yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins’ quarterback group will ride on that huge momentum into the date with the Bengals this week. Miami might limit Tagovailoa against the Bengals, but given what Brissett has shown in Week 2, the Dolphins should be confident to roll out with him under center. Miami’s defense also looked stout after recording an interception and four sacks that resulted in a loss of 23 yards for the Falcons.
The Dolphins are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (+2)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
You can hop on Twitter right now and see a number of people already calling Ja’Marr Chase a bust. The fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has been a disappointment so far for the Bengals. In last week’s 17-13 road loss to the Washington Football Team, Chase was targeted three times and failed to grab one of those passes. He is also reportedly struggling in practices. Still, there’s time for the rookie to build confidence in the preseason and he could have a breakout performance of sorts this week against the Dolphins. Miami could rest most of its defensive starters, which would be a big plus for Chase and the Bengals’ offense. Cincy can also just look for other offensive weapons to move the chains like running back Jaques Patrick, who had 42 rushing yards on six carries against Washington.
The Bengals are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 preseason games, dating back to 2018.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dolphins win, 20-13.
