Regular Season Record: 0-2
The Dolphins are still winless after two weeks, as they absorbed a 31-28 home loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. But it was still encouraging for Dolphins fans to see Miami’s offense show more life. The Dolphins scored just 11 points and racked up just 269 total yards in Week 1’s loss to the New England Patriots, but against Buffalo, Ryan Fitzpatrick and company collected 410 total yards. Fitzpatrick passed for 328 yards and two touchdowns on 31-of-47 completions. Fitzpatrick isn’t afraid to throw shots downfield, regardless of the quality of protection he’s being given, as he’s likely very much used to the punishment he absorbs in the pocket. Fitzpatrick, who got sacked three times in Week 2, still have good weapons to haul down his passes. Tight end Mike Gesicki blew up for 130 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions against Buffalo. Isaiah Ford and DeVante Parker had 76 and 53 receiving yards, respectively, on 12 receptions together. They should get some shine against Jacksonville’s defense that has given up close to 300 passing yards per game, so far this season.
The Dolphins are 3-1 against the spread in their last four games.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
The Jags suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, as they got tripped up by the Tennessee Titans in a 33-30 defeat at home. Not expected to do anything much this season, the Jags looked competitive, even in the loss. Gardner Minshew went 30-of-45 for three touchdowns and two interceptions, while undrafted rookie running back James Robinson rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Robinson will a key for the Jags’ offense against Miami, which hasn’t shown it can stop the run effectively. The Dolphins allowed 111 rushing yards on 23 carries to Buffalo in Week 2 and are now 29th in the NFL against the run, with 164.0 rushing yards given up per contest, so fat this season. Miami’s defense may even go softer in Week 3, with Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones leaving (did not return) the Buffalo game with a groin injury. That sounds like good news for DJ Chark Jr. and Keelan Cole Sr., who had 84 and 58 receiving yards against Tennessee, respectively.
The over is 3-0 in the Jags’ last three games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Jaguars win, 24-21.
