2016 Michigan Wolverines Football Preview
Team Strengths
The Wolverines’ offense figures to be better this season than in 2015. Michigan returns eight starters on offense, a group that counts De’Veon Smith, who was the team’s leading rusher last season with 753 rushing yards and six touchdowns. There is a new starting quarterback for the Wolverines, but Jake Rudock’s replacement in former Houston Cougar John O’Korn is capable of running the offense. O’Korn had 4,068 passing yards and 34 touchdowns in two seasons in a Houston uniform. And of course, there’s Michigan’s defense which rocked its opponents last season. Michigan was fourth last year in total defense with only 280.7 total yards allowed per game.
Jim Harbaugh’s team is currently priced at +850 to win the national title.
Team Weaknesses
It’s not exactly a weakness, but the Wolverines’ running game needs work. Michigan tallied just 158.2 rushing yards per game last season, good for 77th overall in FBS. Perhaps, Michigan returning four of its five offensive linemen from last year would help the team fare better on the ground.
