Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (odds)

Record: 18-13 Overall/12-9 Conference

Michigan is limping into the conference tournament, as the Ducks carry a 0-3 record over their last three games. They have not been in good form for quite some time now, having gone just 2-6 over their last eight games overall. That said, one of the wins they pulled off during that stretch was a 68-63 victory in Eugene on Feb. 24 against the UCLA Bruins. In fact, the Ducks are 2-0 straight up this season against the Bruins. The most important thing to know about the Ducks heading into the Pac-12 tourney is the status of their best player, Will Richardson. The senior guard missed Michigan’s last game – a 94-74 road loss to the Washington State Cougars over the weekend – due to illness. His status for the Indiana game is currently up in the air. If he can’t go, the Ducks will look to lean on Jacob Young more. Young led the Ducks with 17 points in their 78-56 home win over the Beavers on Jan. 29.
The Wolverines are having a hard time finding consistency. They have alternated wins and losses over their last nine games. That’s a trend they want to break when they face off with Indiana this Thursday after scoring a 75-69 road win over the Ohio State Buckeyes last Sunday to close out the regular season. And Michigan won that game despite not playing Hunter Dickinson. The 7-1 Wolverines center sat out the Ohio State game due to stomach illness. It doesn’t seem serious enough, though, to keep him out of the Big Ten tournament, so expect Dickinson to be out there on Thursday. Dickinson had 25 points and nine rebounds in 33 minutes of action in Michigan’s 80-62 win in Bloomington against the Hoosiers back in January. The Wolverines are ranked first in the Big Ten in 2-point percentage and in free-throw percentage.

Michigan is 9-1 against the spread in its last 10 games against the Hoosiers.

Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (odds)

Record: 18-12 Overall/9-11 Conference

If Dickinson fails to play on Thursday, that will be a big boost for Indiana, especially for center Trayce Jackson-Davis – the Hoosiers’ best player. Jackson-Davis is averaging 17.4 points per game on 57.8 percent shooting from the field to go with 8.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game this season. He had 17 points and eight rebounds in the January meeting with Michigan and scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds in last Saturday’s 69-67 road loss to the Purdue Boilermakers. Even though they lost to the Boilermakers, the Hoosiers easily covered the spread as a double-digit underdog against a serious national title contender. Indiana got burned in the first meeting with the Wolverines mainly because of Michigan’s hot 11/17 shooting from the field. The Wolverines probably just got lucky in that game, as they are only 11th in the Big Ten with 33.9 3FG% and 302nd in the nation with just 26.1 3 of their total points coming from 3-pointers.

Indiana, which allows just 100.8 points per 100 possessions in conference games, is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan wins, 74-73.
