The Michigan Wolverines would rather forget everything that happened over the weekend, when they crashed and burned in a loss at home against the Michigan State Spartans. Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (-3)

Record: 1-1 Overall / 1-1 Conference

Jim Harbaugh’s long-term job security isn’t looking great right now after the Wolverines got upset by the Michigan State Spartans in a 27-24 loss in Ann Arbor. It’s a loss that’s hard to swallow for the Wolverines not only because it came at the hands of their bitter rivals, but also since they were the favorites by 21 points heading into that game and that the Spartans were just embarrassed in a loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights a week before. Michigan’s offense got 300 passing yards on 32-of-51 completions from quarterback Joe Milton but didn’t score any passing touchdowns. Instead, the Wolverines relied mostly on their rushing attack, which produced 152 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Michigan is still a team stacked with talent that can match its preseason hype, and it’s just a matter of smoothing the rough edges on its game, including issues with discipline. The Wolverines had been called for 10 penalties for 86 yards against Michigan State. Michigan’s offensive line should rebound in this meeting with Indiana, as it paves the way for the Wolverines’ rushing game against the Hoosiers’ defense that is allowing 186 rushing yards per game this season.

Michigan is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall, dating back to last season.

Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (+3)

Record: 2-0 Overall / 2-0 Conference

After victimizing the Penn State Nittany Lions at home back in the opening week of Big Ten football, the Hoosiers sustained their momentum by taking down Rutgers last Saturday, 37-21. Sophomore quarterback Michael Penix Jr. passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 17-of-26 completions. Senior wide receiver Whop Philyor whopped the Scarlet Knights’ secondary for 137 receiving yards on five receptions. If they saw how Michigan’s pass defense faired against the Spartans, Penix and Philyor will have a week worth of time licking their chops over the prospect of hooking up and collecting yards in the passing attack. Michigan State also had 126 rushing yards on 38 carries against Michigan, so Indiana running back Stevie Scott III can also have all the confidence in his chances of navigating through the Wolverines’ run defense. Indiana’s offensive pieces are much better than what they showed in the win against Penn State, wherein they struggled, and with them gaining even more momentum following the win over Rutgers combined with the seemingly low morale of Michigan after its loss to the Spartans, the Hoosiers are definitely more than just a threat to add more to the problems of Harbaugh.

Indiana is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan wins, 30-24.
