Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (odds)

Record: 19-2 Overall / 14-2 Conference

Juwan Howard succeeded in guiding the Wolverines to a Big Ten title win after Michigan defeated the Spartans on Thursday, 69-50, easily covering the spread as an 11-point favorite at home. Hunter Dickinson and Franz Wagner led the Wolverines as the duo combined for 33 points on 12-of-20 shooting. But it was really Michigan’s defense that bothered the Spartans, who shot just 43.5 percent from the floor. Michigan owns the best defense in the Big Ten. Per KenPom, the Wolverines are tops in the conference with an adjusted defensive efficiency of 94.1 and are currently fifth in the nation with opponents scoring just 0.972 points per possession. Dickinson had 10 rebounds and was a problem all game long for the Spartans, who didn’t have someone with the size and talent to match up with the Wolverines’ 7-1 freshman center.

Michigan is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games.

Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (odds)

Record: 14-11 Overall / 8-11 Conference

Michigan State couldn’t buy a basket from downtown which essentially doomed its chances to beat the Wolverines on Thursday. The Spartans went 0 of 9 from deep in the loss. Although outside shooting isn’t really a strength of this team, the Spartans will have to make at least a few to make Michigan’s defense more honest and loosen up the Wolverines’ interior defense. That would be beneficial for Aaron Henry, who had 14 points and five rebounds in the loss to Michigan. Joshua Langford and Joey Hauser will be pressed to put up better performances this coming Sunday after the two combined for just eight points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field. They can recapture their form in East Lansing, where the Spartans are 3-0 straight up and against the spread in their last three games there.

Michigan State is 3-1 straight up and against the spread in its last four home games against the Wolverines.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan wins, 75-67.
