Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (odds)
Record: 11-1 Overall / 6-1 Conference
Down goes Michigan. The Wolverines suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday, when they fell prey to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on the road, 75-57. The Wolverines entered that game as 5.5-point road faves, but with their shots not falling plus their repeated errors, Michigan seemed like it really deserved to lose that game. Michigan shot just 39.3 percent from the floor and had 19 turnovers. At some point this season, the Wolverines were going to get challenged, and that loss to Minnesota could only make the Wolverines harder to beat in March — and in their next game against Purdue. The Wolverines are still a huge threat on offense and a menace on defense. They are averaging 80.5 points per game and are allowing just 66.3. Michigan has defeated the Wisconsin Badgers and Minnesota (in the first meeting) by a combined winning margin of 48 points. Hunter Dickinson, who had only nine points in the loss to Minnesota, is primed for a rebound performance against Purdue.
Michigan, which bounced back from the loss to Minnesota by downing the Maryland Terrapins on Jan. 19 at home, 87-63, is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (odds)
Record: 11-5 Overall / 6-3 Conference
The Boilermakers are boiling hot. They are on a four-game win streak after taking down the No. 15 Ohio State Buckeyes on the road on Jan. 19. Jaden Ivey hit a game-winning 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation. Ivey finished with 15 points, while Sasha Stefanovic had 15 points as well. Trevion Williams led the Boilermakers with 16 points and seven rebounds. Purdue has also covered the spread in each of their past four games, putting them to 7-7-2 against the spread overall this season. Purdue is about to get its toughest test of the season in the form of the Wolverines, but the Boilermakers are oozing with confidence. The Boilermakers can try to attack the paint against Michigan and fish fouls from the Wolverines’ key players. Purdue scored 36 points in the shaded area to just eight by Ohio State. Purdue is averaging 71.4 points per game and is allowing just 66.7 points per contest.
The over is 3-1 in Purdue’s last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Michigan wins, 71-69.
