Betting on the Minnesota Timberwolves (16-28)
Point Spread: +1
Minny is looking good right now since losing its first four games this month. The Timberwolves have won five of their last seven games, and they can thank Karl-Anthony Towns for this run.
The former first overall pick is averaging 32.0 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists over his last three games, while the team’s offense is amassing 104.6 points since the start of last week. But the defense nearly cost Minnesota the win in its last two games, which were both decided by just three points.
The Timberwolves need some definitive answers on this side of the floor before they find themselves on the losing column. They take on the Suns tonight, which should serves as a good defensive test. Phoenix is putting up a lot of points right now with nearly 110 per game in its last three.
Minnesota is 3-7 SU and 5-5 ATS in its past 10 road games.
Betting on the Phoenix Suns (15-29)
Point Spread: -1
Statistically speaking, Phoenix has the edge in offense and rebounds in this matchup. The Suns rank among the top 10 in both categories, while the T-Wolves are dwelling close to the bottom.
The scary, high-scoring duo of Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker has been clicking this season, averaging 41.4 points combined on a nightly basis. The former is also coming off his best offensive game ever during Sunday’s 115-103 win in Toronto, where Bledsoe erupted for a career-high 40 points to go along with 13 assists and seven rebounds. That victory also marked Phoenix’s second back-to-back victories of the season.
In both wins, however, the Suns defense allowed 103 and 105 points, respectively. Thus, Phoenix remains a risky pick regardless of its recent success. This team is 29th in the league in scoring defense (111.5 points).
The Suns also lost the first two meetings against the Wolves this season, including a 98-85 home loss on Nov. 25.
