Betting on the Mississippi State Bulldogs
There will be no rest for the wicked No. 21 Mississippi State Bulldogs as they prepare to take on yet another College Football Playoff contender for the third time in as many weeks. After falling to LSU in Week 2, the Bulldogs got back on track with a convincing 17-9 win last Saturday over the Auburn Tigers.
[sc:NCAA240banner ]Dak Prescott was once again efficient as he has been for quite some time now, throwing for 270 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Auburn on 29-of-41 passing. Saturday’s match also saw Prescott’s school-record-breaking 150th pass attempt without being picked off.
However, with Prescott hitting left and right on Saturday, Mississippi State’s running game was not in sight, but it was not as if the team needed it against the Tigers. The Bulldogs, who had just 56 rushing yards, needs their ground attack to be present for the big-time Week 5 clash against Texas A&M this coming weekend.
Good thing the team boasts a formidable defense because the Aggies can go toe-to-toe when it comes to a shootout. Just how good has the Bulldogs’ D been lately? How does holding Auburn to a measly nine points on Saturday after it scored a total of 76 points in the first two weeks of the season sound? Not only that, but the team even held the Tigers to just 4-of-14 on third downs, as well as amass four sacks and eight tackles for loss in the process.
Mississippi State is 7-3 both straight-up and against the spread in its last ten games on the road.

Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies
Things will not get any easier for the No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies, who just recently prevailed with a 28-21 overtime win over the Arkansas razorbacks in Week 4. The Aggies now have the daunting task of keeping their blemish-free record for the season intact, beginning with Saturday’s game against Mississippi State followed by a visit from the Crimson Tide the week after.
And what an opportune time it was last week for TAMU quarterback Kyle Allen to further develop his chemistry with receiver Christian Kirk. Allen finished the game against the Razorbacks with 358 yards and two touchdowns, with Kirk the recipient of eight of Allen’s bombs for 173 yards and both of his QB’s TDs, including the game-winning catch in OT. The freshman wideout now has three 100-yard games in the first four game of his budding collegiate career.
However, and just like the Bulldogs, Texas A&M’s running game didn’t show up last weekend. Starting running back Tra Carson and backup QB Kyler Murray combined for just 13 carries for 55 yards, with the former finding the end zone through the ground. Although, the production from Murray ( 27 yards on five carries) was actually coach Kevin Sumlin’s design, subbing him in for designed run plays in the option formation to keep Arkansas’ defense guessing.
Speaking of defense, national sacks leader and Aggie linebacker Myles Garrett continues to exhibit his pass rushing skills. Garrett, who now has 6.5 sacks in 2015, came up with a huge sack-turned-fumble on Arkansas QB Brandon Allen in the fourth quarter to get the Aggies within striking distance to send the game into overtime.
Take note that the Razorbacks O-line hadn’t given up a sack this season until they ran into Garrett and TAMU, who actually got a pair of sacks last Saturday. That being said, the Aggies’ pass rush will go a long way towards containing Dak Prescott and Mississippi State’s aerial assault.
The total has gone over in three of Texas A&M’s last four meetings with the Bulldogs.
Writer’s Prediction
Mississippi State leaves the College Station crowd with nothing to rejoice about after a close 28-24 win over the Aggies.
