Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers 4-6 (+26)
Nebraska is in big trouble after last week’s 54-21 loss to Minnesota. The Cornhuskers have lost four of their last five games and now desperately need to claim victory their final two games of the regular season to get to a bowl game. Head coach Mike Riley has his job on the line in this one and will not be holding back when this squad squares off against Penn State.
But all the gumption in the world may not make a bit of difference, as starting quarterback Tanner Lee is currently undergoing concussion protocol after leaving the 2nd half of the Cornhuskers’ Week 11 game. At press (early AM November 16) Lee’s presence in the game against Penn State is questionable. Without Lee, Nebraska will have to call upon freshman Patrick O’Brien and unless Disney is behind the script of this game, there will not be a fairytale ending. Riley is praying to the heavens above that his starter will be suited up and ready to play.
Betting on the Penn State Nittany Lions 8-2 (-26)
The Nittany Lions are looking good heading into this game. They snapped a two-game losing streak with a 35-6 win over Rutgers in Week 11 of the 2017 college football season. If Penn State can carry that momentum into a two-game winning streak (their final two games) and get a little luck in the process, they actually have an outside chance of playing in the Big Ten title game. Regardless, Penn State is seeking that 10th regular season win which comes with a ticket to a major bowl game.
Writer’s Prediction
To shoot straight, this 26-point spread is a bit much. Penn State will win straight up given the mess that Nebraska is right now, but to cover the 26 points Nebraska will have to be playing with their freshman quarterback. If Lee is back in business, then the points go to the Nebraska Cornhuskers while Penn State keeps the straight up. Pick: Penn State (-26)
