New Orleans’ losing woes show no sign of abating as the Pelicans crashed to their third consecutive defeat with a 122-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The Pelicans simply had no answer for Jamal Murray who scored 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. It was another disappointing result for the reeling Pelicans who were eliminated from playoff contention Tuesday in a home defeat to the Nuggets.

Things are bound to get tougher, though, for the Pelicans as standing in their way tonight are the red-hot Golden State Warriors. The Pelicans have lost each of their last 10 meetings with the Warriors. To make matters worse for head coach Alvin Gentry, big man DeMarcus Cousins is a major doubt for tonight’s contest due to tendinitis in his right achilles. He didn’t see action in the loss to Denver on Friday night.

With Cousins possibly sidelined, the onus is on Anthony Davis to carry the scoring cudgels for the Pelicans tonight. He scored 25 points in nearly 24 minutes of action against the Nuggets. Davis has been a one-man wrecking crew for New Orleans, leading the team not only scoring (28.0 PPG) but also in rebounds (11.9 RPG) and blocks (2.3 BPG) as well. In three meetings with Golden State this season, Davis is averaging an incredible 35.3 points and 12.7 rebounds.

The Pelicans are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games against the Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors locked up the league’s best record for the third straight season with a 120-111 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. Stephen Curry led the way for the Warriors, scoring 42 points and dishing out 11 dimes to record his ninth double-double of the season. The Warriors have now won each of their last 11 meetings with the Suns.

Key to the Dubs’ resurgence has been their phenomenal offense. Steve Kerr’s men are tops in the NBA in scoring, averaging 116.1 points per game this season. The Warriors have stepped up their offensive play of late, averaging 115.2 points in their last 13 games. That scorching offense was in full display Wednesday against the Suns where they shot an incredible 50 percent from the field.

What makes their run even more impressive is that they are doing it without Kevin Durant. The Warriors have embarked on a season-long 13-game unbeaten run with Durant on the sidelines. The good news for Warriors fans is that Durant will be making his much-anticipated return tonight against the Pelicans.

You can talk all you want about Golden State not needing Durant but the 2014 MVP will still play an integral role for the Warriors in their bid to wrest the championship back. Durant leads the Warriors not only in scoring (25.3 PPG) but also in rebounds (8.2 RPG) and blocks (1.6 BPG) as well. The Warriors will need Durant to deliver the goods against the Pelicans as Curry is doubtful for tonight’s contest due to a left knee contusion.

The Warriors are 9-1 SU and 4-4-2 ATS in their last 10 home games.
