Betting on the New Orleans Pelicans (14-24)

Point Spread: +4

New Orleans said goodbye to December by winning their final four games, but the Pelicans have dropped their first three games to begin 2017.

In that stretch, the offense is collecting just 94.7 points on average. The Pelicans did rack up 108 in Boston on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to give them the victory. They now head to the second stop of a five-game road trip, looking to snap their losing slide against the Knicks.

The Pelicans beat New York in their first meeting this season, a game where Anthony Davis dropped 23 points and 18 rebounds while Jrue Holiday had 12 points and 11 dimes. They also forced the Knicks to shoot below 40 percent from the floor and to 14 turnovers, which resulted into 13 New Orleans points.

New Orleans could end up sweeping this regular-season series with the Knicks, who’ve lost seven of their last eight games and their previous three at home.

Davis posted 36 points and 15 rebounds despite the loss to the Celtics. He should have another big night against a New York defense that’s conceding nearly 110 points per game.

Betting on the New York Knicks (17-20)

Point Spread: -4

Defense has been the main issue for the Knicks’ losing woes. They’ve given up no less than 102 points in their last eight games, including 119 or more in the losses to Boston, Houston and most recently Indiana on Saturday night.

Offensively, they’ve been all right, with Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis all scoring in double figures this month.

Melo is averaging 23.0 points on 40 percent shooting in his last four games. Rose is putting up nearly 15 points in that same stretch, while Porzingis is tallying 20.0 points since returning from a sore Achilles.  But even with that much contribution, the defense has given away too many points for New York to get a W.

Things could change tonight, though. The Knicks will face an also-reeling New Orleans team that’s been limited offensively and defensively in its current three-game slide. The only real problem is going to be stopping Anthony Davis, the league’s second-leading scorer with 28.8 points per game.
