The Saints are suddenly winning. After beating the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16 at home, 21-18, New Orleans wandered into The Land and beat the Cleveland Browns on the road last Saturday to the tune of a 17-10 score. The Saints’ defense has truly stepped up and taken it upon themselves to carry New Orleans in the last two games. So far this season, the Saints are ninth in the NFL in total defense with just 322.4 total yards allowed per game and fifth in opponent red zone touchdown rate (48.84%). The Eagles are a much different animal, especially on offense, compared to the Falcons and the Browns, but New Orleans is also the same team that held the San Francisco 49ers to only 13 points a few weeks ago, albeit in a loss.
The Under is Under is 4-0 in the Saints’ last four games overall.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 13-2
There is a chance that Jalen Hurts will be forced to play in Week 17 after missing Week 16’s 40-34 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys because of a shoulder injury. If Hurts still can’t play, Philadelphia has full confidence in Gardner Minshew, who went 24/40 for 355 yards passing and two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions in the loss to the Cowboys. Minshew doesn’t have the wheels of Hurts, but he can still make things happen with his arm, especially since the Eagles have the tandem of DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown ready to play. Smith had 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns on eight catches against the Cowboys, while Brown recorded 103 receiving yards on six receptions and eight targets.
The Eagles are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Eagles win, 27-20.
