Betting on the New York Giants (+5.5)

As many had expected, the New York Giants made sure that the Cleveland Browns stayed winless for the season by beating them on Sunday afternoon, 27-13. More importantly, the G-Men extended their winning streak to six games to put themselves in a great spot to make the postseason for the first time since 2011.

Eli Manning had a relatively tough in Cleveland by throwing for just 194 yards on 15-of-27 passing, but he sure made the most out of his team’s scoring opportunities by throwing three touchdowns without getting picked off. A pair of Manning’s TDs went to star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who finished with six receptions for 96 receiving yards to go with those two scores.

More impressive, however, is how the Giants came up huge on defense when they struggled to get it going on offense. They sacked Browns quarterback Josh McCown seven times, as well as forced and recovered three fumbles on Sunday.

One of those loose balls was returned 43 yards for a touchdown by Jason Pierre-Paul, who also pitched in with three of the team’s seven sacks. Mind you that New York entered the game with a league-low one fumble recovery this season, and having a tremendous defensive outing will serve them well in the trip to Heinz Field in Week 13.

All things considered, though, the Giants have got to play better all-around football this coming Sunday after struggling to make quick work of the lowly Browns. They’re just 2-2 against Pittsburgh since 2000 (3-1 ATS), and the Steelers are no Cleveland Browns, that’s for sure.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5)

On Thanksgiving night, the Pittsburgh Steelers made sure to feast upon the Andrew Luck-less Indianapolis Colts by winning in Indy with ease, 28-7. It was the first time that the Steelers won a Thanksgiving game in five tries, and it was also the team’s second-consecutive victory after suffering a four-game mid-season slump.

All three of Pittsburgh’s brightest stars on offense were on full display in that contest, with Ben Roethlisberger leading the way with 221 passing yards and three touchdowns on 14-of-20 passing. And quite similar to the Giants’ Beckham Jr. this Sunday, top wideout Antonio Brown hauled in five catches for 91 yards and was accountable for all three of his QB’s passes in the end zone. Meanwhile, Le’Veon Bell torched the Colts as well for 120 rushing yards and a TD on 23 carries.

The Steelers’ defense also did a good job by picking off Scott Tolzien twice and sacking him three times on Thursday. That D has got to outperform New York’s own defense this Sunday, as both stop units are about even this season at around 20 points given up per contest.

Nevertheless, you can count still on Pittsburgh’s offense to explode again this coming Sunday, especially with Roethlisberger’s gaudy numbers at home taken into consideration. Big Ben has thrown 15 touchdowns to just two interceptions along with a superb QB rating of 123.8 in Heinz Field this season.

And even though the Steelers have lost two-straight games at home thus far, those defeats were against division-leading teams in New England and Dallas, and yet they are still 7-2 over the past nine home games overall (5-3-1 ATS).

Writer’s Prediction

The Steelers pull away with a tense 34-31 victory, but the Giants manage to cover +5.5.
