Betting on the New York Jets (1-1)
After experiencing a high of being an NFL starting quarterback back in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, Jets rookie Sam Darnold went through a low on Sunday during a 20-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins at home. Against the Fins, Darnold passed for 334 yards on 25-of-41 completions to go with a touchdown and two interceptions. While he struggled with his accuracy, the 21-year-old Darnold became the youngest quarterback in the history of the NFL to pass for at least 300 yards in a game. The Jets, who are 2-1 ATS in their last three road games, need to cut down on their turnovers after committing three in the Miami game. The Browns maybe winless, but they have been ferocious on defense. Wide receiver Quincy Enunwa is turning out to be Darnold’s favorite target. The former Cornhusker was targeted 10 times in Week 1 and 11 more against Miami and caught seven passes for 92 receiving yards.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (0-1-1)
The Browns saw their winless extend to 19 games after falling short yet again in their goal of taking home a victory on Sunday, as they absorbed a heartbreaking 21-18 loss at the hands of the New Orleans Saints on the road. The Browns, however, have covered the spread in each of their first two games of the season. They’ve become underdog spread bettors’ cash cows of late, as they are 3-0 ATS in their last three games dating back to Week 16 of the 2017 NFL season. The Browns had a chance to force the Saints game into at least an overtime late in the fourth quarter, but kicker Zane Gonzalez missed what could’ve been a game-tying field goal. One good thing the Browns can take home with them after the loss was their continued excellence on defense. After forcing six turnovers in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Writer’s Prediction
Cleveland wins, 21-17.
