Sam Darnold was not active when the New York Jets first met the New England Patriots this season, so Week 17’s matchup with the reigning and defending AFC champions (+600 to win the Super Bowl) will be the first time we will see the rookie quarterback going head to head with Tom Brady. Will Darnold shine and lead the Jets to an upset victory? Or will Brady make Darnold show why he’s the long-time boss in the AFC East?

Betting on the New York Jets
Jets head coach ripped the referees during the postgame presser following their 44-38 overtime home loss to the Green Bay Packers. That may just be sourgraping on his part, knowing that he could be fired in the offseason. Nevertheless, the Jets will need to show better discipline after committing 16 penalties for a loss of 172 yards in the Packers game. Moreover, the Jets still must have liked what they saw from rookie signal-caller Sam Darnold, who erupted for 341 passing yards and three touchdowns on 24-of-35 completions in a duel with Aaron Rodgers. He must be feeling good of his chances of having another great performance opposite another future Hall of Famer quarterback this coming Sunday after balling out on Sunday. The Jets should be in better shape in the rematch with New England, as Darnold was not around in their Week 12 27-13 home loss to the Patriots due to an injury.
The Jets are 2-0 ATS in their last two road games.
Betting on the New England Patriots
The Patriots are zeroing in on first-round bye in the playoffs by taking down the Jets next Sunday. In other words, New England is in no position to relax, so expect the Pats to show no mercy and throw anything it can at the Jets in Week 17. In the first meeting with New York, Tom Brady went 20-of-31 for 283 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. He was also not touched in the pocket. That said, Week 17 maybe a show for the Patriots’ backfield to headline. In last Sunday’s 24-12 home win over the Buffalo Bills, the Pats’ ground attack picked up 273 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 47 total carries, allaying any fears that New England’s run game is fizzling out. Watch out for Sony Michel, who had 116 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Bills game, to wreak havoc on the field anew in Week 17. In the previous date with the Jets, Michel had 133 rushing yards and found the end zone once on 21 carries.
The Patriots are 2-0 ATS in their last two home games against the Jets.
Writer’s Prediction
