Betting on the New York Yankees (+115)

Starting for the Yankees in the opening game of this critical three-game set is right-hander Chad Green (2-3, 4.09 ERA). He will face Baltimore for the second consecutive time, having received a no-decision in a 4.2-inning outing on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Green surrendered three long balls in that contest but still held the Orioles to four runs and seven hits. The Yankees have now won three of their last four games with Green as their starter.

That being said, the Yankees will also need to pull their weight on the offensive end if they are to beat the Orioles in the series opener. The Bronx Bombers will rely on the red-hot Starlin Castro to carry them through tonight. He is batting .400 (12-of-30) in his last six games with two homers and seven RBIs. Another player who’s expected to contribute this evening is Gary Sanchez. He is 9-of-27 over his last six games with two homers and five RBIs. Sanchez is 1-of-2 lifetime against Baltimore starter Dylan Bundy with a homer and an RBI.

Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (-125)

Pitching for Baltimore in this series opener is Dylan Bundy (7-5, 3.71 ERA). He struggled mightily in his last outing against the Yankees, allowing five runs on seven hits (one homer) and three walks with six strikeouts over four innings on Saturday. The Orioles lost that game, 13-5. Even with that atrocious performance, Bundy still pitched quite well in the month of August. He posted a 3.10 ERA in six starts last month. The Orioles went 4-2 during that span.

With Bundy still a big question mark at this point, the onus is on the Baltimore hitters to put up some runs on the board tonight. Expected to lead the Orioles offense in this all-important ballgame are the sizzling Manny Machado and Chris Davis. Machado is 9-of-31 in his last seven games with three homers and five RBIs. The third baseman leads the Orioles in hits (160), batting average (.305) and on-base percentage (.356) this season. Davis, on the other hand, blasted a pair of homers against Yankees starter Chad Green in their last meeting on Saturday.

The Orioles are 4-6 in their last 10 home games. They are pegged at +900 to win the American League pennant this year.
