New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – Season Series August 24-26 2018

The Baltimore Orioles have been officially eliminated this week from World Series contention, though, that’s something that’s been written on the wall a very long time ago. As for the New York Yankees, they are still clinging to a string of hope of winning the American League East division. In any case, they have to get as many wins as possible to secure at least a wild card berth. A four-game series against the lowly O’s can give them the boost they need, but will Baltimore bend over that easy?

Game 1:

Starters: CC Sabathia (7-4, 3.32 ERA) vs. Alex Cobb (4-15, 5.09 ERA)

Pitching:

Sabathia is expected to make his return to the mound this Friday once he’s activated from the disabled list due to knee inflammation. He had his last start on Aug. 12 in which he allowed zero runs on just a hit in six innings of a 7-2 home win over the Rangers. He is 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA in his last four starts. Cobb has been one of the few bright spots on the Orioles’ roster of late. He is 1-1 with a 1.57 ERA in his last three starts. He faced the Yankees on Aug. 1 and picked up a win after allowing just an earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings of a 7-5 road victory.

Hitting

  • Adam Jones is 24-for-84 with five home runs vs. Sabathia.
  • Brett Gardner is 7-for-32 vs. Cobb.

Prediction: Yankees win, 5-3.

Game 2:

Starters: Luis Severino (16-6, 3.28 ERA) vs. Yefry Ramirez (1-5, 6.49 ERA)

Pitching:

After seven-day rest, Severino will have a super fresh arm when he takes on Baltimore’s hitters this Saturday. Severino has slipped big time in the second half of the season with a 2-4 record and a 7.26 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break, but he’s 7-4 with a 3.81 ERA in 13 road starts this year. Ramirez, meanwhile, was dinged badly in his last start, giving up seven runs on seven hits in just three innings of action in an 8-0 loss in Cleveland on Aug. 19. He is 1-2 with a 3.81 ERA in six appearances at home, which includes five starts.

Hitting

  • Trey Mancini is 5-for-9 against Severino.
  • The Yankees have a collective .385 batting average against Ramirez.

Prediction: Yankees win, 6-3.

Game 3:

Starters: J.A. Happ (14-6, 3.84 ERA) vs. Dylan Bundy (7-12, 5.31 ERA)

Pitching:

New York has been a happy place for Happ. Since being traded there last July, the 35-year-old lefty has gone 4-0 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts, while limiting opposing hitters to just a .179 batting average. It’s a different case with Bundy, as the Orioles have not won in any of his last four starts. In fact, they are only 3-10 in the 25-year-old righty’s last 10 mound duties. Bundy allowed five earned runs on five hits in four innings of a 9-0 home loss to the Yankees back in Jul. 11.

Hitting

  • Caleb Joseph is 4-for-13 vs Happ.
  • Brett Gardner is 6-for-17 vs. Bundy.

Prediction: Yankees win, 5-3.

Game 4:

Starters: Masahiro Tanaka (9-4, 3.90 ERA) vs. Andrew Cashner (4-11, 4.84 ERA)

Pitching:

Tanaka brought his ERA from 4.03 down to 3.90 after allowing just an earned run on four hits in six innings of a 2-1 road win over Miami on the road on Aug. 21. Tanaka has been generally impressive on the mound. He has not surrendered more than two earned runs in six of his last seven starts. As for Cashner, he picked up a loss in his last start, giving up five earned runs on seven hits, though he did strike out eight batters in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Blue Jays on the road on Aug. 20. He is 2-5 with a 4.56 ERA in 12 home starts this season.

Hitting

  • Adam Jones is 12-for-32 with three homers vs. Tanaka.
  • Aaron Hicks is 4-for-9 vs. Cashner.

Prediction: Yankees win, 5-2.
