Game 1 Thursday, May 31, 7:05PM EST

Starters:  Sonny Gray (3-4, 5.98 ERA) vs. Andrew Cashner (2-6, 5.07 ERA)

Pitching:

Sonny Gray added another loss to his ledger after allowing five earned runs on seven hits in just 3.2 innings of an 11-4 home loss to the Los Angeles Angels on May 26. It was a disappointing outing for Gray, especially since it came after a one-hit, eight-inning outing in a previous start, a 10-1 win in Kansas City. Andrew Cashner, meanwhile, is also just looking to improve his numbers, as he only has one quality start in his last five appearances on the mound. In his last outing, he yielded five earned runs on 11 hits with four walks issued in a 5-1 road loss to Tampa Bay.

Hitting:

  • Adam Jones is 5-for-17 with a homer against Gray.
  • Didi Gregorius is 4-for-16 against Cashner.

Writer’s Prediction:

New York wins, 5-4.

Game 2 Friday, June 1, 7:05PM EST

Starters: Masahiro Tanaka (6-2, 4.62 ERA) vs. Kevin Gausman (3-4, 4.31 ERA)

Pitching:

Masahiro Tanka steps on the mound for the second game of the series after getting a win in each of his last two starts. That includes his six-inning performance in a 3-1 home win over the Halos on May 27 in which he surrendered just an earned run on three hits while also fanning out eight batters. The Orioles, on the other hand, will have Kevin Gausman, who is looking to get his first win in four starts. He was atrocious in the last time he took to the hill, allowing seven earned runs on six hits before getting pulled out after just 2.2 innings of action during an 8-3 road loss to Tampa Bay on May 27.

Hitting:

  • Adam Jones is 9-for-25 with two homers against Tanaka.
  • Brett Gardner is 14-for-42 with three doubles against Gausman.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win, 8-4.

Game 3 Saturday, June 2, 4:05PM EST

Starters: Domingo German (0-3, 5.45 ERA) vs. Alex Cobb (1-7, 6.89 ERA)

Pitching:

Domingo German has yet to win in four starts since being converted into a starter, but he’s been showing signs which give hints to the idea the New York should keep him in the rotation. In his last outing, German gave up a three-run homer to JD Davis in the second inning of a 5-1 home loss to Houston on May 28, but allowed just one more run until he was taken out after 5.2 innings on the mound. As for the Orioles, they’ll counter Domingo with veteran Alex Cobb, who surrendered three earned runs on five hits in seven innings of a 6-0 home loss to Washington on May 28. He is 1-4 with a 4.67 ERA in six starts this month.

Hitting:

  • The Orioles have a collective .273 batting average against German.
  • Brett Gardner is 7-for-26 vs. Cobb.

Writer’s Prediction:

Baltimore wins, 5-4

Game 4 Sunday, June 3, 1:05PM EST

Starters: CC Sabathia (2-1, 3.73 ERA) vs. Dylan Bundy (3-7, 4.46 ERA)

Pitching:

It’s been over a month since CC Sabathia recorded a win and he’ll look to end the drought this coming Sunday against the Orioles. Sabathia pitched against the Orioles on Apr. 6, allowing three earned runs on four hits (three homers) in just four innings of a 7-3 home loss. He is 11-7 with a 3.58 ERA in 25 career starts at Camden Yards. Dylan Bundy, on the other hand, looks to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to Washington on May 29 when he yielded three earned runs on 11 hits in six innings on the mound.

Hitting:

  • Adam Jones is 24-for-81 with five homers against Sabathia.
  • Brett Gardner is 6-for-16 vs. Bundy.

Writer’s Prediction:

Baltimore wins, 4-3.

Writer’s Overall Series Prediction

The Yankees and Orioles split this regular season series, 2-2.
