Pitching Edge – Boston Red Sox (-175)

250x130-250FREE-6-16-16

Drew Pomeranz (8-9, 3.09 ERA) is still looking for that first elusive win with the Red Sox. He heads into tonight’s game versus the Yankees fresh off a relatively solid outing against the Mariners last Thursday. In that game, the former Padres pitcher registered six innings of two-run ball and finished with six strikeouts under his belt. An even better performance should be expected from Pomeranz, who is 1-1 with a 1.13 ERA in three career games (two starts) against New York.

Over at the visitor’s side, the ball will be handed to Nathan Eovaldi (9-8, 4.80 ERA). It’s hard to feel optimistic to see him step on the mound at Fenway Park, which has been a place of forgettable moments for the right-handed veteran. He holds a 5.94 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP across three career starts there.

Batting Edge – Boston Red Sox (-175)

The batting edge goes to Boston, needless to say. The Red Sox, after all, lead the majors in batting (.283) and runs (603). What’s more, Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts are holding hot bats right now.

Bogaerts, who got the day off yesterday, owns a team-high .317 batting averages and owns a sizzling triple-slash line of .342/.411/.92 at home this season. Betts, meanwhile, has been better as he’s looking to keep his 10-game hitting streak alive. He should be able to do so since he’s batting .313 all-time against Nathan Eovaldi.

The same can be said for David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr., too. Both boast a career batting average of .333 versus the Yankees starter.

Writer’s Prediction: Boston (-175), which is pegged at +1,200 to win the World Series this season, wins it.
