Betting on the New York Yankees (17-9)
The Yankees have the third-best record in the majors right now, making them such a bang-for-the-buck bet at +1,600 to win the World Series this season. And yes, they’re also primed to win this series opener at Wrigley Field.
Heading up the mound for the visitors is Michael Pineda (3-1, 3.14 ERA). He held the Orioles to a pair of unearned runs across 5 1/3 innings while fanning eight in his past start. Pineda, however, has conceded one home run in all but one of his starts this year.
It’s a good thing that the righty is backed up by a potent offense that is second in the league in scoring (5.69 runs per game), and one that’s led by Aaron Judge. The streaking rookie carries a majors-best 13 homers—with more than half of which coming in his last 10 games. New York went 7-3 in that stretch.
Betting on the Chicago Cubs (16-12)
Chicago looks to build upon its three-straight victories against Philadelphia with Kyle Hendricks (2-1, 4.18 ERA) taking the rubber.
After allowing four homers in his first three starts to the season, the 3-year veteran’s found his control in his previous two starts, giving up just two runs in 12 frames, including a shutout performance at Pittsburgh on Apr. 25.
This will only be Hendricks’ first-ever start against the Yankees, though.
Kris Bryant’s been the driving force for Chicago’s offense, which posts 5.07 runs per outing this season. The reigning NL MVP is 19-for-38 (.500) with five runs batted in, four doubles, three dingers and a triple through his last 10 games.
At 16-12, the Cubs sit atop of their division and rank third in the National League, where they’re favored at +140 to seize the crown again.
