Betting on the New York Yankees (24-13)
The Yankees are taking the good and the bad with rookie starting pitcher, Jordan Montgomery.
Montgomery is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA and is showing some promise but is expectedly having some rough nights.
Montgomery, who starts tonight against the Royals, is coming off a six-inning start in a 5-1 loss at home to Houston on May 12, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Dealing with the Astros can be tough for any pitcher let along a rookie, so the southpaw Montgomery is hoping to be better this time around versus the light-hitting Royals. The Royals are last in the American League in runs, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. If Montgomery is looking to get some of his confidence back, a start against the mess that is Kansas City is just be what the doctor ordered.
Aaron Judge, meanwhile, will look to continue his fantastic play at the plate. The hulking outfielder is batting .348 with four homers this May as of this writing.
Betting on the Kansas City Royals (16-23)
Just two years ago, the Royals partied like it was 1985. Today, they’re partying like…Sorry, there’s no reason to revel for this group. It has just been bad for Kansas City, which is taking losses left and right.
Kansas City’s pitchers have a small room for mistakes, as they are not expecting the team’s offense to have their backs. Kansas City is providing just 3.06 runs per nine innings to its starters, which (again) is worst in the MLB.
Danny Duffy will have that in mind later when he takes the hill for his ninth start of the year. Duffy is 2-3 with a 3.38 ERA this season. The right-hander took a no-decision on May 12, when he allowed just two earned runs on eight hits over seven innings of a 3-2 home win over Baltimore.
Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer are, as usual, going to be the top hitters for the Royals. Cain is 6-for-17 in his five games prior to this series with the Yankees. Hosmer, meanwhile, is hitting .283 (13-for-46) against lefties this year.
