Betting on the New York Yankees (+105)
Starting for the Yankees in the final game of this three-game set is right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (10-4, 3.24 ERA). He was incredible in his last start, throwing 7.2 scoreless innings in New York’s 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. The Japanese star has been pitching well of late, striking out at least eight batters and walking none in his last three starts. The Bronx Bombers are unbeaten during this span. That being said, the Yankees will also need to pull their weight on the offensive end if they are to beat the Mariners in the series finale. The Yankees will rely on the red-hot Gary Sanchez to carry them through tonight. He is batting .400 (10-of-25) in his last seven games with four homers and five RBIs. He has just set a new franchise record for the Yankees with a whopping eight home runs in his first 19 games.
The Yankees are 5-2 in their last seven road games. They are pegged at +8,000 to win the World Series this year.
Betting on the Seattle Mariners (-115)
Starting for Seattle in this series finale is Hisashi Iwakuma (14-8, 3.78 ERA). He allowed three runs over seven innings with two strikeouts and a walk in the Mariners’ 6-4 loss Thursday to the Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander has now gone at least seven innings in three of his past four starts for a 1.69 ERA in August. He has displayed incredible command with his pitches this month, posting a solid 19:2 K:BB ratio in 26.2 innings over his last four starts.
He will be licking his chops at the prospect of facing a New York side that has been struggling on the offensive end this season. The Yankees are 23rd in the majors in runs scored (515) this campaign. That being said, Iwakuma sure would appreciate it if his teammates would provide some run support later today. The Mariners will be counting on the bats of Kyle Seager and Robinson Cano to produce at the plate in this crucial encounter.
Seager is batting .333 (8-for-24) over his last seven games with two homers and four RBIs. Furthermore, Seager is 3-of-12 (.250) with two homers and four RBIs in his career versus Tanaka. Cano, on the other hand, is 9-of-30 in his last seven games for Seattle with two home runs and five RBIs. The second baseman leads the Mariners in hits (150) and batting average (.295) this season. He is 2-of-13 lifetime against Tanaka with a homer and a pair of RBIs.
The Mariners are 8-2 in their last 10 home games. They are pegged at +1,000 to win the American League pennant this year.
