Starting for the Yankees in the second game of this three-game set is Luis Severino. He hurled a gem in his last start against arch-rivals Boston, holding the Red Sox to an unearned run and two hits over six innings in a resounding 9-2 victory at Yankee Stadium. Severino struck out nine and walked none in a dazzling 87-pitch effort. The Yankees have now won nine of their last 11 games with Severino as their starter. Severino is now undoubtedly New York’s ace, posting a stellar 3.03 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 201/45 K/BB ratio in 169.1 innings pitched this season.

As fabulous as Severino has been this season, he can’t do it all by himself. One guy who needs to step up for the Yankees later today is Didi Gregorius. He is batting .308 in his career against Texas starter Andrew Cashner with a homer and one RBI. Gregorius has been a vital cog in the Bronx Bombers’ recent success, leading the team in batting average this campaign. He just hit his 21st homer of the season in Friday’s loss to Texas.

The Yankees are 5-5 in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Texas Rangers (71-69)

The Texas Rangers are right in the thick of the playoff hunt and they have Andrew Cashner to thank for that. The Rangers have won six of their last seven games with Cashner as their starter. He was superb in his last start against the Atlanta Braves, allowing just two earned runs in six innings of action. Cashner’s two-seam fastball was a thing of beauty in that 8-2 win with that go-to pitch registering 14 called strikes. Since July 5, the right-hander has surrendered just 19 earned runs in 65.1 innings.

As for the offense, the Rangers are feeding off a hot Elvis Andrus right now. The shortstop is 12-of-32 in his last seven games with four homers and 14 RBIs. Andrus went 3-of-4 with three RBIs in last night’s 11-5 win over the Yankees. Another guy who’s sizzling at the plate right now for Texas is Carlos Gomez. He’s batting .333 (9-of-27) in his last seven outings with two homers and five RBIs.

The Rangers are 7-3 in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Texas wins, 4-3.
