Expert Picks for Super Bowl 50

CBS Sports

Line Pete Prisco Jason La Canfora Will Brinson Jared Dubin Ryan Wilson John Breech Dave Richard Jamey Eisenberg
DEN +5.5 DEN CAR CAR CAR DEN DEN CAR DEN

The folks over at CBS Sports did not a have a unanimous vote in favor of Carolina. In fact, the eight-man panel was split down the line as Pete Prisco, Ryan Wilson, John Breech and Jamey Eisenberg sided with the Broncos at +5.5. These four gentlemen have given the boys from Mile High a lot of credit, especially Prisco, who even went as far as predicting that Denver will win with a final score of 23-21 on a piece that he recently published.

Prisco noted that the Broncos D is just far too superior to let Sunday’s game go. He praised the pass-rushing and secondary units specifically as the catalyst for the defense’s success, with standouts Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib or Chris Harris Jr. coming up with a late turnover to shift the momentum and have Peyton Manning do just enough on offense afterwards for an eventual game-winning field goal.

While one would argue that the Panthers’ own defense is just as intimidating, Prisco saw much more out of Denver’s, and that Manning and his mega-mind will play efficiently enough to dissect Carolina’s zone coverage to keep the Broncos’ passing game humming along just fine.

Bleacher Report

Line Mike Norris
CAR -3.5 Carolina, 27-14

Mike Norris of Bleacher Report held nothing back by declaring the Panthers as the winners of this season’s Lombardi trophy in blowout fashion (and he even wrote his prediction while the opening Vegas odds had the team at just -3.5).

Norris gave a ton of praise to phenomenal playmaker Cam Newton, who he even predicted will win the Super Bowl 50 MVP award. He also mentioned that Newton’s been an offensive juggernaut since the second half of the season, throwing for 22 touchdowns to just two picks from then until the NFC Championship game against the Cardinals.

And it’s not just Carolina’s offense that Norris was glowing over, as he also gave a ton of love to the team’s disruptive defense. The Panthers were tops in the regular season in takeaways (39) and turnover margin (plus-20), and this had Norris but in to the reality that this is out defensive unit that not even the great Peyton Manning will manage to decode properly on Sunday.

Inquisitr

Line Phillip Dengler
CAR -6 Carolina

Serving as the final nail on the Broncos coffin in this here article is Phillip Dengler of Inquisitr, who noticed a similarity between this Sunday’s matchup and Peyton Manning’s last Super Bowl trip from a few years back when he was demolished by the Seattle Seahawks. In the previous outing, Manning and the Broncos faced Russell Wilson, who is an awful lot like Cam Newton (smart decision-makers through the air, agile with their feet). As such, a repeat outcome of Super Bowl XLVIII is likely on the horizon.

Not only that, but Dengler also stated that Carolina’s opponents in the playoffs (Arizona and Seattle) were much tougher and healthier down the stretch of the season than that of Denver’s. The Broncos needed to go down the wire against the Steelers without Antonio Brown, then again pulled away with a narrow victory from the Patriots the next week, who had not been playing as explosively for the latter half of their season at all.
