Betting on the North Carolina Tar Heels (TBA)

The Tar Heels make a trip to Hawaii not for a vacation but for a mission to extend their unbeaten streak to four games to begin the season. The Tar Heels are coming off an easy 93-67 win over Long Beach State 49ers at home last Tuesday with Joel Berry III leading the team.

Berry stayed hot on offense, scoring 23 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field against the 49ers. He also added six rebounds and four assists. Berry enters Friday’s contest averaging 21.3 points per game, tops on the team. North Carolina is far from a one-man show, however. The team is ninth nationally in assists with 23.0 dimes per game and had just dizzied Long Beach State’s defense with 20 assists.

Still, how well Berry plays appears to be a good barometer for North Carolina, which went 30-3 SU last season when the swingman scored at least 10 points.

No. 5 North Carolina is 4-0 SU in the last four meetings with Hawaii, which is just 2-18 SU in history against top 25 teams.

Betting on the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors (TBA)

Taking on a team like North Carolina isn’t as easy as sipping a piña colada but the Rainbow Warriors will be looking to stage a gigantic upset when they host the Tar Heels this Friday. Hawaii is 5-5 ATS in its last 10 games as the home team.

Among those who won’t be fazed by North Carolina is Noah Allen, a transfer from UCLA. Having played in Pac-12 before, Noah will use his experience in facing elite programs against the Tar Heels. Noah, who leads Hawaii in points (16.3 PPG) and rebounds (7.3 RPG), had 15 markers and 11 boards in a 64-63 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Tuesday.

It was Gibson Johnson, who played the hero in that game, though, as he scored the go-ahead basket with less than seven seconds remaining on the game clock.

Hawaii needs its bench to put up a bigger production against North Carolina than the six-point output that its reserves managed against the Owls. The Tar Heels are deeper so Hawaii must be able to source ample points outside of starters Noah (11.0 PPG), Allen, and Sheriff Drammeh (14.7 PPG), who are the top three scorers on the team.

Writer’s Prediction

North Carolina wins, 88-64.
