Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (-25)
Record: 3-0 Overall / 3-0 Conference
The Buckeyes dominated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in their last outing, scoring a 49-27 win at home to further prove just how good of a team Ohio State is. More specifically, it amplified the ripeness of Justin Fields for the pros. Fields tossed five touchdowns and finished with 314 passing yards on 24-of-28 completions, while also committing zero turnovers. The Buckeyes’ offense is amazing when it is conducted by Fields, who now has 908 passing yards and 11 touchdowns against zero interceptions across three games to start the season. Last year, Fields beat the brakes off the Terrapins in a 73-14 home win. Fields dressed down Maryland’s defense for 200 yards and three touchdowns, while Ohio State’s ground attack took care of the rest. Master Teague III, who’s still with the team, racked up 111 rushing yards on 18 carries. Fields and Teague can definitely expect to have the same success this time against Maryland’s defense that just recently got scored 43 points by the Northwestern Wildcats.
Ohio State is 6-3-1 against the spread in its last 10 games away from home.
Betting on the Maryland Terrapins (+25)
Record: 2-1 Overall / 2-1 Conference
Maryland’s defense is improving, and how it performed in the 35-19 road win over the Penn State Nittany Lions over the weekend was a good sign for the team, heading into a tough matchup against Ohio State. After allowing an average of 43.5 points in the first two games of the season, the Terrapins surrendered just 19 points to Penn State, which could have been just 12 if not for a late, garbage-time touchdown by the Nittany Lions when there were only 11 seconds left on the game clock. Ohio State’s offense is looking unstoppable right now, but the Terrapins’ defense shouldn’t be counted out, given the way it shackled Penn State’s offense. Meanwhile, there’s better quarterback play for the Terps this year than in 2019, as Taulia Tagovailoa has been decent so far. Against Penn State, Tagovailia passed for 282 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 18-of-26 completions. After bombing out in the loss to Northwestern, Tagovailoa has picked up 676 passing yards and six touchdowns against just an interception in two games.
Maryland is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
