Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (odds)
Record: 12-4 Overall/5-2 Conference
The Buckeyes should be very fresh when they take on Minnesota this Thursday. After a sparring session with the IUPI Jaguars in an 83-37 win at home on Jan. 18, Ohio State had their scheduled matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers canceled because of a COVID-19 breakout in the latter program. A well-rested Buckeyes spell trouble for Minnesota, which has been lost quite a lot of late. E.J. Liddell led the Buckeyes in the IUPUI game, with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes. On a side note, Liddell just needs 12 more points in order to join the Ohio State 1,000-point club, and that would be extra motivation for him when the Buckeyes take on the Golden Gophers, who have one of the worst defenses in the Big Ten; Minnesota is 13th in the conference with 112.7 1 points allowed per 100 possessions.
Ohio State is 5-5 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (odds)
Record: 11-5 Overall/2-5 Conference
Even without three starters, the Golden Gophers managed to pull off a 68-65 win as a home underdog last Saturday against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to snap a four-game losing skid and win their second in Big Ten play. The Golden Gophers missed the services of Jamison Battle, EJ Stephens, and Eric Curry in the Rutgers game for health reasons, and it’s uncertain whether Minnesota will have anyone from that trio back for the matchup against Ohio State. Nevertheless, Payton Willis showed that the Golden Gophers can lean on him when he scattered 32 points and recorded seven assists in 40 minutes versus Rutgers. As a team, the Golden Gophers are averaging 69.6 points on 45.8 percent shooting from the field. Minnesota doesn’t turn the ball over a lot, as evidenced by the fact that is 11th in the nation with only 9.8 turnovers per contest.
The over is 4-2 in Minnesota’s last six games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Ohio State wins, 72-68.
