Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (-17.5 Spread / 2-0 Record)
The Sooners had a walk in the park last week, as they downed the UCLA Bruins with ease in a 49-21 victory. Transfer quarterback made sure that Oklahoma won’t miss Baker Mayfield that much once again, as the dual-threat quarterback looked like the real deal under center for the second game in a row, passing for 306 yards and three touchdowns against just an interception on 19-of-33 completions. He also added 69 rushing yards and two more scores on 10 carries. The rest of the college universe may be starting to learn how to adjust to Murray’s game, but even if they limit him, his production is expected to be significant on most games. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is another Sooner to watch out for this Saturday after pulling down seven catches and finishing with 146 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Bruins. The Sooners also have revenge in their mind, as they suffered their only regular-season loss to the Cyclones last year, 28-31.
The Sooners are 4-2 ATS in their last six games as a road team against the Cyclones.
Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (+17.5 Spread / 0-1 Record)
Cyclones quarterback Kyle Kempt sustained a knee injury in last week’s 13-3 road loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes, but Iowa State head coach said that he believes it’s not something that will force Kempt out for long. However, Kempt’s status for Saturday’s home date against the Sooners seems to be up in the air, and if he gets ultimately ruled for that contest, Iowa State will be forced to start Zeb Noland under center. Noland subbed for Kempt last week and passed for only 43 yards on 4-of-10 completions. With an uncertain quarterback situation, the Cyclones will be relying on their defense to keep the team in step with the Sooners. The load of Iowa State’s defense gets significantly lighter with the news of Oklahoma star running back Rodney Anderson getting ruled out of the season with a nasty knee injury suffered last week in the UCLA game. Also, if the Cyclones are to pull off another upset win over Oklahoma, they need a big game from running back David Montgomery, who racked up 144 all-purpose yards in last year’s win over Oklahoma.
The Cyclones are 2-0-1 ATS in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Oklahoma wins, 35-17.
