Betting on the Oregon Ducks (+2.5)

Record: 10-2 Overall / 7-2 Conference

The Ducks are out of contention for the College Football Playoff, but winning the Pac-12 is not going to be too shabby for Oregon. After losing to the Utes on Nov. 20 on the road, 38-7, the Ducks got back up and defeated the Oregon State Beavers last Saturday, 38-29, to get themselves some momentum heading into a rematch with Utah. Anthony Brown went 23/28 for 275 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Beavers. He also rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. That’s the kind of explosiveness on offense Brown will look to show Utah after failing to do so in the first meeting with the Utes. Wide receiver Kris Hutson, meanwhile, did have a good outing against Utah the first time around, as he had 96 receiving yards on just four catches in that game. He’s coming off another solid performance, having caught seven passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Oregon State game.

Oregon is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games as an underdog.

Betting on the Utah Utes (-2.5)

Record: 9-3 Overall / 8-1 Conference

Utah is also not going to make the CFP, but at least the Utes are on a roll. They have gone undefeated over their last five games, which includes that aforementioned dominant victory over the Ducks. The Utes sustained their hot form with a 28-13 home win over the Colorado Buffaloes last Saturday in a game where they allowed just 148 total yards and amassed 444 total yards themselves. Utah running back Tavion Thomas racked up 142 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries against Colorado. Speaking of Thomas, he will be a man to watch in this game, considering the fact that he dominated the Ducks a couple of games ago. Against the Ducks, Thomas rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries. Overall, Utah generated 2018 rushing yards and four rushing scores in that contest, and after seeing the Beavers rush for two touchdowns against Oregon last Saturday, expect the Thomas and the Utes to continue testing that seemingly porous Ducks run defense.

Utah is 16-7 against the spread in their last 23 conference games.

Writer’s Prediction

Utah wins, 28-24.
