Betting on Philadelphia Eagles (0-1 Preseason)
The Eagles failed in their preseason test, as they got crushed by the Tennessee Titans at home last week, 27-10. Nate Sudfield dominated the snaps at the quarterback position, passing for 177 yards on 10-for-18 completions with a touchdown and zero interception. That’s the last time that Sudfield would be seen on the field for a while, though, or at least for the rest of the preseason, as he sustained a wrist injury. Don’t expect to see Carson Wentz playing against the Jaguars, especially with what happened to Sudfeld and the utter meaninglessness of preseason games. With Sudfeld in danger of missing games in the regular season, the Eagles now have a backup quarterback battle in their hands, with Cody Kessler and Clayton Thorson vying for the slot, though, the former has the edge, considering that the latter was just drafted this year. One thing about the Eagles in their last game, their pass protection played well, allowing just a sack.
The under is 3-1 in the Eagles’ last four road games.
Betting on Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1 Preseason)
Like the Eagles, Jacksonville floundered in their first assignment of this preseason, taking a 29-0 beating at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens on the road. Rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew went 7 of 14 for 46 passing yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. He was hit hard in the game when Baltimore’s pass rush got him once for a loss of yards. Overall, the Jaguars allowed four sacks for a loss of 21 yards, and that’s never a good look for Jackonsville heading into a matchup with Philadelphia, which recorded three sacks against the Titans. It’s uncertain whether Nick Foles will appear under center against his former team, but expect Minshew to be given ample playing time this coming Thursday. Rookie running back Ryquell Armstead rushed for 22 yards on eight carries against the Titans, and he’s improving his stock for the primary backup role to Leonard Fournette once the regular season arrives.
The over is 4-2 in Jacksonville’s last six home preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
Eagles win, 21-13.
