Betting on the Phoenix Suns (-1)

Regular Season Record: 64-18

Chris Paul is still an elite point guard, and he proved that again with a masterful performance in Game 2, dropping 29 points on 11/16 shooting while dishing out 8 assists in 36 minutes. Paul took over in the fourth quarter to keep the game out of Dallas’ reach. Together with Devin Booker, Paul toyed with the Mavs’ perimeter defense unlike in the series opener where it was Deandre Ayton who led the team with his inside scoring. Booker paced the Suns with 30 points while also playing immense defense. Phoenix sizzled with 64.5 percent shooting from the field and hit 13 of 25 shots from deep despite all the adjustments that Dallas made. It’s not looking good for the Mavs, who heads back home still without an answer to the Suns’ onslaught.

The Suns hit the road carrying a 5-1 record against the spread in their last 6 games after putting up more than 125 points in a previous contest.

Betting on the Dallas Mavericks (+1)

Regular Season Record: 52-30

The Mavs need answers quick. The Suns are having their way against their defense that was so stout in the regular season and in the first round versus the Utah Jazz. First of all, Luka Doncic can’t do it all. Doncic scored 35 points in Game 2 after scoring 45 in the series opener. Jalen Brunson, who had an amazing first round, just had 9 points in Game 2 on a salty 3/12 shooting from the field. Spencer Dinwiddie was efficient once again, going 3/10 for 11 points off the bench. Maxi Kleber was not able to hit any 3-pointer. Hopefully for every Mav not named Luka Doncic, they will find their shooting touches again in Game 3 at home. The last time they were in Dallas, the Mavericks destroyed the Jazz in a 122-77 victory on Apr. 25.

The Mavericks are 11-3 against the spread in their last 14 after giving up at least 100 in their previous outing.

Writer’s Prediction

The Mavs win, 109-105.
