Betting on the Portland Trail Blazers (+3.5)

Regular Season Record: 40-29

The Blazers extended their win streak to four games by defeating the Houston Rockets, 140-129, last Monday at home. The Blazers simply took advantage of the Rockets’ clear disinterest in playing defense, as Damian Lillard and company shot 51 percent from the field and hit 18 of 40 threes. Lillard led the team with 34 points, while Norman Powell and CJ McCollum each finished with 28 points. The Blazers have been on fire offensively of late, as they averaged 127.8 points and shot 40.3 percent from deep in their last four games. On the season, the Rockets are averaging 116.0 points while allowing 114.5 per contest. With the Jazz missing Donovan Mitchell and Chris Conley, the backcourt tandem of Lillard and McCollum will be threats to put up huge numbers in Salt Lake City.

The Blazers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games.

Betting on the Utah Jazz (-3.5)

Regular Season Record: 50-19

The Jazz saw their five-game win streak come to an end Monday night, as they suffered a 119-116 road loss to the Golden State Warriors. Still, for the Jazz to sustain a winning streak that long is commendable, considering that they are, as mentioned, missing Mitchell and Conley.  Both will remain sidelined and won’t play against the Blazers, but the Jazz still have Jordan Clarkson and Bojan Bogdanovic to handle the scoring in the perimeter. Clarkson sizzled with 41 points on 16-33 shooting from the floor against the Warriors, while Bogdanovic put up 27 points. In other words, Utah has enough firepower to keep in step with Portland. They should get their buckets against Portland’s defense that 26th in the NBA with 1.155 points allowed per possession. Conversely, the Jazz are third in the league with 1.187 points per possession.

The Jazz are 3-1 against the spread in their last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Jazz win, 116-112.
