After 11 years, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will once again cross paths at Wimbledon. In the 2008 Finals of the men’s singles at Wimbledon, Nadal victimized Federer in an instant classic to stop the latter’s quest for a sixth-straight title in this tournament. Now, Federer will get his long-awaited chance to avenge that loss. Will Nadal add to his success against Federer with a win? Or will Federer advance to the Finals and extend his hopes of adding to his giant collection of Wimbledon trophies?
Head to head notes: Nadal and Federer have played each other 39 times. Their most recent match was in the semifinal of the 2019 French Open which Nadal won. Nadal leads the all-time head to head record at 24–15, including 10-3 in Grand Slams. Nadal has the edge when playing on clay (14–2) and on the outdoor hard court (8–6). However, Federer leads on indoor hard court (5–1) and more importantly on Wimbledon grass with a 2–1 record.

Line: Rafael Nadal (-150) vs Roger Federer (+120)
TV Broadcast: ESPN, NBC Sports, TSN, Tennis Channel
Betting on Rafael Nadal (-150)
Nadal will be meeting his good friend and archrival Federer in the semifinals, thanks to his dominant win in the quarterfinals over Sam Querrey. Nadal handled himself well in that match despite Querrey’s effective service game to eke out a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Nadal knows that Federer is hardest to beat on the grass, but he’s also facing in the semifinals the same man he beat in 2008 in the Finals of Wimbledon. Furthermore, he beat Federer in their last meeting, which was during the semifinals round of the 2019 French Open. Federer remains a dangerous opponent for anyone, but Nadal has always been the kryptonite to his superman. Nadal can counter Federer’s serves by unleashing his own great return game. Against Querrey, the Spaniard converted six of 16 break-point opportunities.
Betting on Roger Federer (+120)
Federer has historically struggled when facing Nadal, but the latest trend in their career matchup is in his favor. While he lost at the 2019 French Open to Nadal, Federer has won six of his last seven meetings with Nadal, though, all those matches were on the hard court. But even on grass, Federer has the advantage over Nadal. In three grass matches, Federer has won twice — both at Wimbledon, too. To get to the semifinals round, Federer edged out a game Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals to the tune of a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 score. Federer was not rattled at all despite losing in the first set, as he dominated the Japanese the rest of the way, which tells a lot about the massive experience of the Swiss tennis legend. Federer has seen it all and likely has all the answers to in-game problems, which he’ll need to execute his plan when adjusting to what Nadal will have up his sleeve this coming Friday.
Writer’s Prediction
Federer wins in five sets and takes a big step towards another Wimbledon trophy.
