Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (39-11)
San Antonio’s 2017 rodeo trip kicks off Monday night when the Spurs visit the Memphis Grizzlies in the opener of an eight-game journey. This year’s road trip will feature the first six games in the final 10 days before the All-Star break with stops in Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, Indiana and Orlando. The Spurs are 82-35 since the rodeo trip started in 2003. The Spurs won seven of their eight games in this annual road trip last year.
This year’s trip will encompass a whopping 7,378 miles and three time zones but the location rarely matters for the five-time NBA champions. The Spurs are 20-5 on the road this season. They’re also playing some excellent basketball of late, winning nine of their last 11 games. That includes San Antonio’s 121-97 walloping of the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. Veterans Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker turned back the hands of time, scoring 18 points apiece in that ballgame.
It was a historic result for head coach Gregg Popovich who picked up his 1,128th victory, breaking the record set by Utah’s Jerry Sloan for most wins with the same team. He will fancy his chances of adding to that record total this coming Monday. The Spurs have won each of their last nine games against the Grizzlies.
The Spurs are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (31-22)
The Memphis Grizzlies will head to their showdown with the San Antonio Spurs with momentum on their side after completing a highly-successful road trip. Memphis went 4-2 on a six-game road trip in which they averaged a whopping 109 points and shot 47.9 percent from the field. The Grizzlies made 40.1 percent from beyond the arc on that said trip and ended it by recording a thrilling 107-99 come-from-behind victory over Minnesota on Saturday.
One guy who’s playing well for the Grizzlies at the moment is Mike Conley. He averaged 22.3 points and shot 48 percent on the trip. Conley will need to be at his best, though, against a San Antonio defense that’s allowing just 98.9 points per game this season, second-fewest in the NBA. Also expected to contribute for Memphis is All-Star center Marc Gasol. He was rested in the Grizzlies’ win over the Wolves. Gasol leads the team in scoring, averaging 21.0 points per game this season.
The Grizzlies are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 home games.
