Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (31-8)
The Spurs emphatically redeemed themselves after that ugly 108-107 loss to the Bucks, which was highlighted by Manu Ginobili’s facepalm-worthy miss as time expired. They took out their frustration on the Lakers Friday, 134-94, and shot a season-high 61 percent from the field.
In this upcoming matchup, the Spurs should have no problems recording another convincing win. They have already beaten the Suns twice this season, with both being by 15 points or more. We may also see another great shooting display from Kawhi Leonard and company, as they collectively made over 53 percent of their attempts in their previous two meetings against Phoenix.
Leonard (24.2 PPG) and LaMarcus Aldridge (17.6 PPG) should once again headline the scoring, although Pau Gasol (12.1 PPG) could also do some damage. The Spaniard returned to life versus the Lakers after a string of quiet games, scoring 22 points, nine rebounds, and six assists (9-for-9 shooting).
Through those guys’ productions, along with placing in the top five of offensive and defensive efficiency rankings, there’s no reason to think that they can edge out the Suns.
The Suns are 7-11 at home this season (9-9 ATS).
Betting on the Phoenix Suns (12-26)
The Suns added another L in the loss column Friday night. Their horrible defense was on full display in the 113-108 defeat, with six Mavericks scoring in double digits.
Defense has long been the problem of the team, and this season has been one of the worst in recent memory, as they are 29th in points allowed (111.9 PPG) and 25th in defensive efficiency. Additionally, they also don’t take care of the ball well, turning the ball over 15 or more times (14 is the league average) in 26 of their 39 games this year.
Should they win, it’ll likely be because of their offense (105.9 PPG, 11th overall). Expect the team’s quick, skilled players, namely Eric Bledsoe (20.1 PPG), Devin Booker (19.7 PPG), and TJ Warren (14.1 PPG) to challenge the stout Spurs D right from the tip. Their main man in the middle, Tyson Chandler, meanwhile, will have an intense battle with the visitors’ bigs. He’ll have his hands full, although he is sure to give a competitive presence, and he’ll be bringing in his 11.9 RPG average (ninth in the league).
Writer’s Prediction
The Spurs win, 119-109.
