Betting on the San Diego State Aztecs (27-1 Overall / 16-1 Conference)

San Diego State made sure that it was not going to be upset two times in a row by beating the Colorado State Rams at home last Tuesday, 66-60. It was a nice comeback win for the Aztecs, who came into that game on the heels of a 66-63 upset loss to the UNLV Rebels at home last Saturday that could cost them a No. 1 seed. The Aztecs survived Colorado State despite shooting badly from the floor, making just 35.2 percent of their field goal attempts, though they went 11 of 23 from behind the arc. Malachi Flynn, the Aztecs’ most important player, led the team with 17 points on a salty 4-of-14 shooting but had six rebounds and four assists. Flynn had 14 points in their 68-55 home win over Nevada back in January, while three other Aztecs each had at least 11 points including Yanni Wetzell, who pumped out 17 points to go with 16 rebounds. San Diego State’s defense, which has been impressive and punishing for the most part of the season, limited Nevada to only 27.1 percent shooting from the floor. The Aztecs have the best offense and defense in the Mountain West Conference, ranking first in both departments on KenPom.

The Aztecsm who are allowing just 59.0 points per game, are 8-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Nevada Wolf Pack (19-10 Overall / 12-5 Conference)

The Wolf Pack could be in their best form of the season when they meet San Diego State anew this weekend, as Nevada is on a six-game win streak. That stretch includes their 73-68 road win over the Wyoming Cowboys last Tuesday. Jalen Harris led the Wolfpack with 23 points on an excellent 9-of-18 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers. Harris was also scorching hot from deep in the January meeting with San Diego State, coming up with 19 points with five 3-pointers on 10 attempts. Nevada got away in the Wyoming game with a win despite collecting 18 turnovers. That won’t fly against San Diego State, which has an efficiency offense that can convert extra possessions on a relatively higher rate. In the loss to San Diego State, the Wolf Pack had 14 errors. Nevada’s 3-point shooting will always be a threat, which is why the Wolf Pack can’t be counted out to at least cover the spread. They are seventh in the nation with 10 triples per game on 38.2 shooting percentage from deep.

The Wolf Pack are 4-1 ATS in their last five games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

San Diego State wins, 73-69.
