The San Francisco 49ers are inching closer to the regular season, but before that, they will have to face the Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in a preseason match this Saturday. The Niners, who are +325 to win the NFC West, are expected to deploy quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on the field longer than he used to in the past games. The same could be true for Luck, who could use another exhibition match to shed any remaining rusts from a long layoff.

Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (1-1 Preseason Record)
The 49ers failed to follow up on their 24-21 preseason-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys at home, as they absorbed a 16-13 loss against the Houston Texans last week. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had a solid performance overall against the Texans, throwing for 136 yards and a touchdown on 10-of-12 completions. He had an interception, too, though it was off bounce from wide receiver Dante Pettis’ hands. Unlike Garoppolo, the Niners’ backfield didn’t impress much, as it only put up 84 yards on an anemic 3.1 yards per carry. Maybe San Francisco will have more success on the ground against the Colts, who gave up 139 rushing yards on 4.3 per carry last week to Baltimore.
The 49ers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games in the preseason.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (1-1 Preseason Record)
Andrew Luck is back, but he was obviously not in his vintage form in last week’s 20-19 home loss to the Ravens. In that game, Luck connected on just 6 of his 13 passes for 50 yards and an interception. The Colts’ offensive line also allowed Baltimore to sack Luck twice for a loss of 19 yards. Luck is coming off a lengthy absence due to a shoulder injury, but he returns still with a flimsy protection unit. In the win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, the Colts allowed three sacks for a loss of 22 yards. Hopefully for the Colts, Luck does better in the dress rehearsals this Saturday. Rookie running back Nyheim Hines is also looking to get better after losing a fumble during the kickoff in the second half. He had the same issues in the preseason opener, so his outlook is not looking good right now.
The Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last five preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
