Betting on the San Francisco Giants (+133)
Good things usually happen when Johnny Cueto (14-3, 2.90 ERA) takes the mound for the San Francisco Giants. They’ve gone 15-5 in his last 20 starts, which include eight huge wins on the road. That’s exactly what the Giants are hoping for when they face off with the Los Angeles Dodgers again for the second meeting of a three-game series tonight.Cueto heads into this matchup fresh off a sensational performance against the Mets last Friday. In that game, he fired seven innings of one-run ball to eventually capture his 14th win of the season. The veteran righty carries a 3.06 ERA with a 4-5 win-loss mark throughout 11 career starts versus Los Angeles. He’s also 8-1 with a 3.19 ERA away from home this year.
Meanwhile, expect the offense to be led by Angel Pagan, who’s currently on a 19-game hitting streak. During that long span, he’s hitting .369 with five doubles, two homers and six runs batted in. He also went 2-of-5 during last night’s opener.
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-143)
Rich Hill (9-3, 2.25 ERA) hasn’t been too bad himself this season. He is, at long last, ready to make his Los Angeles Dodger debut since being sidelined by a blister on his left middle finger for more than a month. Before that injury happened, Hill had logged in sixth-straight strong starts and has not yielded more than three earned runs this season.
Furthermore, the former Oakland starter boasts a relatively good track record versus the Giants. He’s 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA in that matchup, but it’s hard to expect too much from Hill, who’ll probably need more than tonight’s game to shake off the rust and regain his real form.
That being the case, the pressure is on the pair of Corey Seager (.324) and Justin Turner (.279) to deliver the goods at the plate. Both went 3-of-4 during yesterday’s loss in the first game and you can expect them to keep it going later.
Seager, in particular, is the one holding the hotter bat. The 22-year-old shortstop is aiming to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and currently leads the team in batting average (.324), OBP (.379) and in hits (158). He’s only 3-of-11 all-time against Giants starter Johnny Cueto, however.
