Betting on the San Francisco Giants (+140)
The San Francisco Giants finally snapped their three-game losing streak with a gritty 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Eduardo Nunez and Brandon Belt each homered for the Giants who pulled into a three-way tie for first place in the NL wild-card standings with the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals.
The Giants will look to carry the momentum of that huge win when they take on the Dodgers in their series finale tonight. Starting for the Giants in the final game of this three-game set is left-hander Matt Moore (11-11, 4.06 ERA). He was terrific in his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing just two runs on seven hits in five innings of action. San Francisco won that game, 8-2. Moore is clearly settling in as a Giant, posting a 4-1 record and a 3.45 ERA over his last five starts.
He will fancy his chances of extending that excellent form against the Dodgers as he has fared extremely well against them of late. Moore nearly pitched a perfect game in his last outing against the Dodgers. Only a Corey Seager single with two outs in the ninth inning prevented Moore from achieving that historic feat.
That being said, the Giants will also need to pull their weight on the offensive end if they are to beat the Dodgers in the series finale. The Giants will rely on the red-hot Buster Posey to carry them through tonight. He is batting .385 (10-of-26) over his last eight games with a homer and four RBIs. He is just 1-of-6, though, in his career against LA starter Kenta Maeda with one RBI.
The Giants are 6-4 in their last 10 road games. They are pegged at +2,000 to win the World Series this year.
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-155)
Pitching for Los Angeles in this critical showdown is Kenta Maeda (15-9, 3.24 ERA). He was solid in his last start, surrendering just one run on three hits in five innings of action in the Dodgers’ 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 28-year-old rookie has been pitching well of late, going 7-2 over his last 10 starts without conceding more than three earned runs in any outing. Maeda is in for a tough test, though, later tonight as he will be pitching on regular four days’ rest in back-to-back starts for just the fourth time in his career.
With Maeda still a big question mark at this point, the onus is on the LA hitters to put up some runs on the board tonight. Expected to lead the Dodgers offense in this all-important ballgame is Corey Seager. He leads the Dodgers in hits and on-base percentage this season. Seager went 3-of-4 last night against the Giants. Another player who’s expected to deliver the goods this evening is Howie Kendrick. He is 6-of-18 lifetime against San Francisco starter Matt Moore with a couple of RBIs.
The Dodgers are 8-2 in their last 10 home games. They are pegged at +350 to win the National League pennant this year.
