Betting on the San Jose Sharks (46-27-9 Regular Season)
Controversial or not, San Jose’s 5-4 overtime in Game 3 against the Blues has the Sharks in the driving seat of the series. Defenseman Erik Karlsson came up big, as he scored two goals. Veteran Joe Thornton also flashed his old brilliance with a two-goal performance of his own. Logan Couture didn’t earn a star, but his goal with just under a minute left in regulation tied the game and forced overtime. Couture has been out of his mind lately. He has a three-game scoring streak. Dating back to Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Couture now has five goals and an assist. Over his last five games, he has five goals and two assists. Couture called out his team for its effort following the loss in Game 2, and his teammates responded by giving him the ample support he was looking for. Hopefully for the Sharks, Couture and company will be able to sustain their production into Game 4, where an angry Blues team will look to hit back – hard.
San Jose is 3-2 in its last five road games.
Betting on the St. Louis Blues (45-28-9 Regular Season)
The Blues felt that they were robbed of a win in Game 3. They were on their way to bagging the victory and taking the series lead, until Couture scored late in the third period and Karlsson shipping in the game-winning score in overtime. The Blues are contesting that Karlsson’s game-winner shouldn’t have counted due to a hand-pass from Timo Meier that wasn’t called no reviewed by the game’s officials. In any case, what’s done is done and the Blues will just have to move on and focus on tying up the series. One positive from the Game 3 loss for the Blues was the return of star Vladimir Tarasenko to the scoring sheet. Tarasenko finally scored his first goal in six games, a trend the Blues are hoping to continue. In addition, after going 0-for-6 on the man advantage in the first two games of the series, the Blues special teams went 1-for-1 on the power play in Game 3.
The over is 5-4-1 in St. Louis’ last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
St. Louis wins, 4-2.
