Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
It was the Seahawks who topped the dog-eat-dog world of the NFC West last season, as they ended the regular season with a 12-4 record. Back under center for the team is no other than Russell Wilson. Seattle has issues that have yet to be resolved, but just having a quarterback like Wilson guide their offense answers a lot of questions. Last season, Wilson passed for 4,212 passing yards and 40 touchdowns against just 13 interceptions. He also rushed for over 500 yards and a couple of rushing scores. The Seahawks just need to protect him better this time around. Seattle’s defense was a letdown in 2020, but it was solid against the run. The Seahawks allowed just 99.6 rushing yards per game last season. That run defense will be a key weapon against Indianapolis’ offense that’s expected to rely heavily on its ground attack.
The Seahawks are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games in September. The under is 7-2 in Seattle’s last nine games overall.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Colts shared the best record (11-5) with the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South last season, though they finished second in the division due to technicalities. This season will be a lot different for the Colts, though. For one, they have a new quarterback in former Philadelphia Eagles signal-caller Carson Wentz. However, Wentz’s status against Seattle in Week 1 is still up in the air as of this writing, as he’s still dealing with a foot issue. If he can’t go, the Colts will likely start Jacob Eason. What’s almost certain, is that they are going to ride a lot on their rushing game that’s led by Jonathan Taylor. Last year, the Colts were ninth in rush play percentage (44.13), with Taylor leading the team with 1,169 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Colts are 5-4 against the spread in their last nine games overall. The over is 5-0 in Indianapolis’ last five Week 1 games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Seahawks win, 26-23.
