Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – NFL Week 15 – December 16 2018

The 8-5 Seattle Seahawks (+3,600 to win Super Bowl 53) are currently fifth in the AFC standings, embedding themselves in the conference’s playoff picture, thanks to a late-season winning streak. The San Francisco 49ers can only wish they have the success the Seahawks are having right now, but the reality is that they are out of playoff contention. But can the 49ers spoil Seattle’s Sunday? The sportsbook likes the Seahawks by 5-points over the home team.

Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (8-5)

The Seahawks have kicked the door to enter the playoff picture in the NFC, thanks to a very timely four-game winning streak. That stretch includes their 21-7 takedown of the Minnesota Vikings last Monday at home.  The Seahawks rode their backfield to the hilt in the Vikings game. Running back Chris Carson rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Overall, the Seahawks had 214 rushing yards on 42 carries, leaving Russell Wilson passing for just 72 yards with zero touchdowns to go along with an interception off of an incredibly boneheaded decision near the goal line. If the Niners show up with the kind of defense they had in the first meeting with the Seahawks back in Week 13’s 43-16 home win by Seattle, Wilson could be up for a huge game. Wilson only needed 17 passes to get 185 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions in that game. Seattle’s defense has elevated its play, too, having allowed just 23 points total the last two games.

Seattle is 8-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last 10 games against San Francisco.

Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (3-10)

The 49ers are no longer playing for a spot in the playoffs, buy they obviously tried to look as entertaining as possible in last week’s 20-14 home win over the Denver Broncos, especially tight end George Kittle who went nuclear in the passing attack. Kittle had 210 receiving yards and a touchdown on just seven catches and nine targets. His confidence is on an all-time high right now, and even a stingy Seattle defense could have a difficult time slowing him down. After all, Kittle was decent in the previous matchup with the Seahawks, racking up 70 receiving yards on six catches and nine targets. Another player to watch out for San Francisco is rookie wideout Dante Pettis, who had 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the first game with Seattle. He has 255 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the last three Niners games.

The 49ers are 3-1 ATS in their last four games as a home underdog.

Writer’s Prediction

Seattle’s wins, 27-21.
